Subject: Re: [ubl-lcsc] Details and Number

1st Question..., good question!

"detail" is "a small individual feature, fact or item". In everyday
usage, "details" is understood as "all the necessary information
about...". So I would say we are right to use the plural.

2nd Question..., you are digging over old ground here!

We think of 'number' as a representation term for purely numeric
numbers.
We do not use 'number' as the representation term for many identifiers
simply because those identifiers are not necessarily pure numbers. There
is a whole range of examples - bank account number, invoice number,
national health number, flight number etc - where the 'number' is a
mixture of alphabetic and numeric characters. The decision from past
discussions was to use the term 'identifier' because that is more
precisely correct. The business terms in common usage would be synonyms
of the 'politically correct' name.

This is one of the delightful and frustrating things about the English
language, a single word can have more than one meaning - coupled with
other words it can have even more meanings!
Try "...doing a number...", "...having someone's number...",
"...someone's number is up...", "...do a number on...", "...a little
black number..." Have fun!

Mike

Hello all,

I have two questions to the representation term.

First question:
Why is the representation term of a ACC or a ABIE is expressed in
plural as
"Details" and not in singular as "Detail".

Second question:
Why can't the representation term "Number" be used for the
representation of
certain identifier? "Number" itself occurs in many different terms of
linguistic usage (like: credit card number, telephone number etc.).
Therefore it would be obvious and understandable for the humans to use
the
"Number" as a own representation term.

Regards,

	Gunther
