Subject: Re: [ubl-lcsc] Fw: Question about UBL

Title:
Hello Nicolas,

I am the chair of the UBL Library Content subcommittee and have been given your email.  Thank you for your encouragement and interest.

Let me start by stating that the majority of us working on UBL have been motivated by exactly the same concerns that you express about having to build proprietary schemas from scratch.  We are attempting to leverage the combined knowledge of many business experts, XML experts and data analysts to create a basis for representing business information in XML syntax in an open and free-to-use environment that has proper governance and authority.

The version currently published at our web site is version 0.70.  This was released for public review in March and the review closed in May.  Since that time we have been applying many of the comments given to us and have now produced a draft version of UBL 0.80.  I think that this may addresse many shortcomings in 0.70 including the aparent lack of re-use of Core Components (or BIEs in our context).  In addition we have  added a more comprehensive data model, which may assist in your problems with lack of documentation.  UBL has decided that the XML Schemas (XSDs) will be the normative form and should contain all the semantic information required to understand the structures.  This does limit us to how much embedded documentation we can provide.  Perhaps you can give some ideas or examples of what you consider suitable documentation?

The UBL 0.80 version is now under internal QA before we will make it accessible to the public in the next 2 weeks.  I will ensure we distribute a set of 0.80 schemas to you personally, and I would like to hear your opinion on the new developments.  The main reason for having this interim version is to allow three strategically important groups, RosettaNet, OAG and the e-Gov Procurement project to participate and contribute directly to the revisions.  This review will conclude at our next UBL meeting on July 28-August 1st.

Finally, in terms of standards strategy we can advise that we intend that the revised schemas following this 0.80 review will be the OASIS Technical Specification to be known as UBL 1.0 (the official OASIS standard).

Subject: Question about UBL

Hi

First off, thank very much for all your work. We think it's great
that UBL exists.

We're evaluating UBL for usage in our ERP System and other software
(we're market leader in Switzerland for ERP, General Ledger etc. for
SMB).

When looking at UBL, we found that some CC seem to not be integrated,
and that (at least in the .xsd's), a lot of documentation is lacking.

Question: Is there a newer version somewhere that could be used for
further evaluation? (Our alternative is to use our own schema, but we
try hard to avoid that, because those things stick for (too) many
years.) Please help us to avoid that.

Thanks and regards
Nicolas

BTW: ubl-comment@lists.oasis-open.org didn't work.

we apologise for this, the OASIS organisation have recently upgraded their administrative software and are experiencing some gaps in the previous functionality.
