Subject: [ubl-lsc] Re: Next UBL liaison press releases
UBL LSC (and Frank Vandamme, because Kris is on vacation): Looks like our plan to announce each new liaison member isn't very practical; see message from Carol Geyer of OASIS below. I had occasion today to speak to Karl Best and Patrick Gannon about this as well, and they have suggested monthly releases, which seems reasonable to me. Anyone disagree? This plan means that I will need quotes from all four new liaisons for our next press release. Status of those is as follows: HL7: draft quote in review SWIFT: need quote VCA: quote in progress e.centre: need quote I will also need four "about" info blurbs. I've appended what I've got so far for HL7 and SWIFT below; please review and update. I couldn't find anything suitable for VCA or e.centre, so I will need Robert and James to provide something. Jon ------- Start of forwarded message ------- From: "Carol Geyer" <carol.geyer@oasis-open.org> To: "Jon Bosak" <jon.bosak@sun.com> Cc: "Patrick Gannon" <patrick.gannon@oasis-open.org> Subject: FW: [ubl-lsc] Next UBL liaison press releases Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 09:15:20 -0400 Jon, I didn't realize you were proposing a weekly UBL liaison press release. While I appreciate that each liaison org might like to be featured in its own OASIS press release, this is not advisable from our perspective. We would get much more coverage from one announcement that focuses on the momentum of industry groups joining the UBL effort than a repetitive drip of individual releases. Press will not respond favorably to being spoon-fed this information, and those that don't ignore the announcements outright may resent OASIS for wasting their time. We must be careful to maintain our credibility with the media and that means being vigilant about issuing press releases that are meaningful and succinct. At the rate the Consortium is growing--adding new TCs and approving OASIS Standards, etc.--this becomes a real concern. If editors start to brand us as wolf-criers, it will be hard to win them back. I strongly recommend we fold all these announcements into one press release.
