Subject: [ubl-lsc] Minutes of UBL Liaison SC meeting 2002.08.30

UBL LSC members:

My apologies; this one got completely away from me. Since we
didn't achieve a quorum 8/30, these are just informal notes. At
this point they're ancient history, but I wanted to get them into
the archive. Please contact the list with changes or additions.
-- Jon

2. Interoperability (Bill French) -- Doug Jones (RNUG)

Doug Jones was introduced as the liaison representative from
   the RosettaNet Users Group.

3. Status report on schema review

   No press release.

Tim: addendum to announcement: trying to create meaningful
examples; will be an addendum in next week or two with
   examples (don't mention stylesheets).

ACORD -- Nigel Wooden -- absent, advisory by mail

(A small review team (one or two members, including Alan
      Stitzer) will provide input.)

   ARTS -- Richard Mader

(Richard will send the review package to the technical
committee and then schedule a conference call to discuss
it.) -- not sched yet, but will now; have announced to
      internal group.

   e.centre -- James Whittle -- absent

   EIDX -- Bill French

Doug and Bill will talk to guidelines SC and ask them to
review. RNUG and EIDX tend to colocate but are not
connected; what's possible: get some of the regulars (4-5)
to take a look and offer what comments they can; will make
      effort to group the comments.

   HL7 -- Charlie Mead

As expected, the Modeling and Methodology committee said it
didn't know enough to comment, but suggested several
committees/people who would care; now being looked at by
people from "control/query" and "conformance." The latter is
more interesting -- normalizing metadata w/ ebXML -- four
people are actively reviewing and will submit comments. The
review package will be posted to the internal lists. HL7
has a meeting the week of 29th, will try to have the review
back the the week before that.

NACS -- John Hervey -- absent

(NACS has four people committed to review this package.)

RosettaNet -- Derek Coleman -- absent

SWIFT -- Kris Ketels -- absent

VCA -- Robert Shanbaum -- absent

XBRL -- Ray Seddigh -- absent

(XBRL Specification Committee will participate. Ray plans
to announce the package when it becomes available next week
and then set up a conference call to discuss it.)

   X12 -- Mark Crawford

The review package has been forwarded to X12 COTG (including
the chairs of all the subcommittees); also to X12C/TG3, and
they will be taking a look at it; not sure how much we will
get back formally; anticipating reviews from some of the
      subcommittees

   UN/EDIFACT -- Sue Probert

T8 will be comparing UBL CC's with EAN.UCC and Boeing's
CCSD. People are hard to reach because the new lists are
not set up yet. Will send the package to the chairs of the
original D groups, but am pessimistic about technical work
      being accomplished in Geneva.

   Announcement

Public announcement of the review package should go to
ubl-comment on Friday 30 August. At that time, Jon will
request an announcement on the OASIS "announce" list.

   Status (Tim McGrath)

We have produced a more mature version of the release that
incorporates comments into model. Dangerous to
differentiate between semantics and structure; instead: area
under discussion is the way in which the model is
instantiated, the syntax binding issue rather than the
logical construct issue; we want comments on the logical
      construct in this round.

We want to dedicate time at the f2f to reviewing the
comments, so this is an invitation to anyone from the
liaison groups to present their ideas at that meeting; then
6-8 weeks to produce a UBL Library ver 1.0 in which the
syntax binding issues have been resolved and we have a
clearer idea of the logical constructs. The version we
expect to complete at the meeting in mid-November is the one
which we would encourage people to try prototyping.

4. UN/CEFACT core component update (requested by Garret Minakawa)

Garret: Not clear on what the CCSD work is intending to do.

Sue: CCSD is set up as a group to provide originally an
example of the CCTS (and a test of it)... Must have two
implementations before they can publish. The first is
Boeing, the second will be EAN.UCC. That's all this group
is doing -- producing candidate CC's and BIE's, similar to
what UBL is doing. T8 will take the work from CCSD and UBL,
invite input from other groups, and create the actual CC
catalog. The organizational challenge is that the committee
for Geneva has moved into the ITG, which may be the wrong
place; this needs to be sorted out in Geneva. Since CCTS is
still a moving target, it's hard to form the catalog.

Mark: There are ongoing issues about the relationship
between CCSD AND CCTS. These have been put into two
different groups. WRT CCTS, a fundamental change has been
made to concept of core components [largely in response to
input from UBL]. An internal release to the CCTS team will
go out today with a lot of editor's comments. The changes
      in CCTS align well with the direction in which UBL is going;
we are now perfectly aligned with the CCTS.

5. OAG Core Components WG (Garret Minakawa)

Garret: Has been working to bring UBL and OAG closer
together. Has been working to get OAG management to agree
to forming a new CC WG. Would rather a single effort
between OAG and UBL, but this appears to be the best we can
do at the moment. An announcement is planned for some time
next week. The plan is to take the existing OAG catalog,
identify CC's, and then work toward harmonization with UBL
and start migrating OAG CC's to UBL.

6. Meeting 9/27

      Trying to get Mark to chair 9/27; Tim will be traveling;
will try to get Lisa to attend.

Jon Bosak
Chair, OASIS UBL Liaison Subcommittee
