Without trying to spark a debate, I am forwarding material that outlines
the current status of UDEF.  This was discussed briefly at the latest
Library Content meeting and the consensus was that we should allow you to
decide on its applicability to our work.

Per the decision at last week's AIA EEWG meeting, I have updated the
Universal Data Element Framework (UDEF) to be compliant with the ebXML
naming convention (representation terms). The attached zip file contains
the
updated UDEF plus both presentations made last week. I have also included a
sample of how the UDEF is used (Word file) based on the old UDEF property
words (but the process remains the same). I have also included a UDEF DTD
based on the old UDEF property words.

We will tentatively hold an ATC sometime during the first few days of
December (3rd or 4th) to discuss this subject with the goal of obtaining a
decision whether to proceed using the UDEF intelligent ID as a substitute
for the ebXML "temporary Unique ID (UID)" which is unstructured and
un-intelligent.

Dave Holland - please forward this material to those who volunteered to
participate in the EEWG Metadata Harmonization Project.

Those on distribution, please forward this material to those in your
respective organizations who are considered subject matter experts in
metadata and XML. They will be welcome to participate in the next ATC (Dec
3rd or 4th).
