Subject: Minutes of the SSC Call 24th March 2005
Minutes of the UBL Software Sub-Committee Teleconference Call 24th March 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attendance: Stephen Green Anne Hendry David Kruppke Sylvia Webb Reports from TC and SC's 1. 10 or more extra documents may be considered for UBL 1.1 (including those already noted in TC Pacific minutes plus a possible new addition from Tax XML - a self-billed debit note - SW) 2. Atlantic calls had been on hold for a little while and the mail lists relatively quiet 3. Website links to the SC pages had been fixed 4. The Pacific call TC group are planning to produce recommendations of model content changes for UBL 1.1 for TC review ahead of actually adding these to the model. They also plan to produce a set of prototype 1.1 modelling spreadsheets with example changes so that SSC could take these further (in response to SSC's comment/request last week) Report from DK regarding Schema generation phase 1 DK would start work on Tuesday in view of the planned 31st March target date. SG stated that with regard to CTD20 and the concerns that it might affect type names with arguably reduced backwards compatibility, DK should keep primarily to what we are sure about for this phase and we should await a decision on this from NDR but might be able, too, to produce prototype Schemas demonstrating the effects of keeping CTD20. ** DK would use the following model artifacts for Schema generation with Edifix: - imports of aligned version of UBL 1.0 model spreadsheets apart from CCT and UDT - exception of the UBLAmount specialized datatype, held specially in Edifix since it could not yet be automated form the existing spreadsheets (SG noted that he had already commented that SDT's for 1.1 might need special consideration on a case by case basis with regard both to their modeling and Schema generation) Action: DK to start work on Schema generation without CTD20 Action: DK, at his discretion, to prototype Schema generation with CTD20 too Schema Design with regard to imports and XSD derivation SG and DK had agreed by emails over the past week and in line with Tony Coates' comments in the meeting last week that the best design we could offer and closest to our understanding of the agreed UBL 1.1 Naming and Design Rules while keeping proven backwards compatibility was that demonstrated in a set of prototype Schemas which SG had sent to the list on 23rd March. Agreed: that this design would be recommended to the TC and NDR Team although it would require some changes to the 1.1 NDR (with likely impact on other groups using the same rules). The discussions to date are all found in the SSC list postings over the past two or three weeks including previous meeting minutes, culminating in the 23rd March prototype. Action: SG to include this in the minutes and to email Jon and then the TC regarding this design and resulting recommended changes to the NDR (and see action item below) Schedule It was pointed out and discussed that there would now be two sets of Schemas for NDR and the TC to consider: - Schemas from DK resulting from phase 1 of the Schema generation (possibly including a separate set of prototype Schemas for rule CTD20) - prototype Schemas from SG resulting from SSC discussions and agreement NDR decisions will be needed by SSC for the following: - initial feedback from SG and DK about rules e.g. GNR10, GNR11, ATN2, CTD7-11, CTD20 and DOC8 and DOC9 - review of Schemas from phase 1 Schema generation - VER8 and VER9 - use of imports and derivation in a minor version ** Agreed: the SSC schedule for Schema generation work for 1.1 depends on the above NDR/TC decisions ** Agreed: the target date for actual work by DK to begin is the end of the first week in May in order to meet the subsequent target date of June 1st (note: the plenary is the second week in May) ******* NOTE: This means a necessity to receive NDR decisions by around *** April 22nd *** in order to allow time for clarification where necessary, etc ******* ** Agreed: that without a prompt decision from NDR Team/TC regarding the NDRules the final target date for UBL 1.1 would be in jeapordy and further DK/EF work after this month might be held up Action: SG to minute this and include in the emails to Jon and then the NDR Team the urgent note that without a prompt decision from NDR Team/TC regarding the NDRules the final target date for UBL 1.1 would be in jeapordy and that this meant urgent discussions by the TC/NDR Team team over the next two weeks with a set of decisions by April 22nd ** Agreed: There was some possibility that a fallback position would be to use the design agreed by SSC for minor versions (redeclarations without imports for all types except datatypes) if no minor version decision was reached by NDR Team/TC in time for the final UBL 1.1 target date (the contingency for failing to receive decisions on other rules might be to assume they should be ignored if they would be understood to possibly break backwards compatibility) This contingency would allow 1.1 work to continue without NDR feedback by the end of April but MD/SW had emphasised the strong wish to await clear NDR/TC-agreed instructions before proceeding with development.
