Subject: Minutes of Pacific UBL TC call 23 September 2004
Note that these minutes are not for last week but the week before. MINUTES OF PACIFIC UBL TC MEETING 00H30 - 02H30 UTC THURSDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2004 17h30 - 19h30 Wed San Francisco 08h30 - 10h30 Thu Hong Kong, Singapore, Perth 09h30 - 11h30 Thu Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing ############################################# STANDING INFORMATION FOR UBL CONFERENCE CALLS U.S. domestic toll-free number: (866)839-8145 Int. access/caller paid number: (865)524-6352 Access code: 5705229 ############################################# PRESENT Jon Bosak (chair) Ram Kumar G. Ken Holman Tim McGrath Marion Royal EVENT REPORT: UN/CEFACT FORUM IN WASHINGTON LAST WEEK JB: (repeats report on the UN/CEFACT Forum given in the Atlantic call)... We are not trying to recreate UN/CEFACT within UBL... (Reports Dick Raman's remarks on UBL at the closing plenary: UBL is work that was started in ebXML; it's a shortcut to where UN/CEFACT is going and has value for users because it's something we can start with today; he will try to heal the breach with OASIS and get UBL fully embraced by UN/CEFACT so that we can publish a whole slew of deliverables usable in the short term; this would help UN/CEFACT because it could release something that could be used immediately.) JB: ATG2 accepted most of TM's input. It appears possible that UBL may be able to sync with ATG2 versions in 1.1 but no one seems to know for sure at this point. TM: There are two things here: the names we give things, and their attributes. Agreeing on names may not be possible. We should be aiming for the ability to map from one to the other: the only difference should be the names; the meanings and values should be the same. JB: CEFACT IPR policy: new proposal to change "qualified indemnity" to "qualified warranty"... According to the leader of these negotiations, it could be a solution. MR: TBG17 took submissions... about 98 percent of UBL submissions against the [core set of] 21 CCs were accepted... Region was not accepted, but this doesn't really break anything... The 21 were boiled down to 19, which are now published... Next will be looking at 39 additional CCs to be rationalized against the original 19... It was a very positive week... I echo Jon's [positive] sentiments on the reorganization, though in many cases, only one person was nominated for each position due to limited resources... Still a lot of work to do between UBL and TBG17... Still in process of forming the team to help out with this. STYLESHEET AND XPATH SUPPORT GKH: Ready to release stylesheets and XPaths. (JB: Please wait till your return next week so that you can be available to answer questions, if any.) TM: The mappings to the Layout Key should be the job of the UN. (GKH: Agrees.) The Certificate of Origin would provide an occasion for this. CALENDAR REVIEW TM: There may still be an opportunity to host the April/May UBL meeting in Australia. LIAISON REPORTS RK: New charter for CIQ for 2004-6; working on 3.0 based on feedback from eGov TC; looking at how to apply the new UBL NDRs to CIQ; M. Roytman of the Tax XML TC is trying to see if he can apply; CIQ Version 3 will have three different name/address specifications (Basic, Advanced, and Enterprise), because most organizations would prefer a simplified version, while most postal service applications need Enterprise. ADDITION OF NEW ITEMS TO THE WORK LIST TM: AI at the TC plenary [in Copenhagen]: Long discussion about UN eDocs and their information model for documents in trade and transport... Sue said that they would be available. Jon Bosak Chair, OASIS UBL TC
