Subject: Re: [ubl] Re: [ubl-psc] Urgent PSC Call Needed

having scanned your edits I suggest we do try and keep the meeting scheduled by Sylvia...
A call is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 September at 16:00 CET/10:00 AM EDT.
This is one hour before the regularly scheduled UBL TC Atlantic call.

some of your edits require discussion (those in Red) and we still have to apply the changes we actually requested.

if we can agree on what to do on this call then we have to turn them around immediately and give to Sylvia for schema generation.

NB it is important we all understand and adhere to the process if we want to avoid yet more slippage to the schedule.  At this stage I would advocate we have to accept what we now have and stop editing.  Jon has given clear guidelines of what is needed and a timetable - lets keep to that.

Re: [ubl] Re: [ubl-psc] Urgent PSC Call Needed Please find attached the document spreadsheets and common library spreadsheets containing my proposed edits.
As mentioned in my previous email, some edits are not highlighted (before I was made aware of the process).  The edits that are highlighted are:
  • bright yellow – change in wording
  • light yellow – typo or grammatical error (note – only glaring errors fixed)
  • red – further discussion needed.

A few more things I’ve noticed in doing this exercise:
  • in Reminder, there is no qualified reference to a Billing Document
  • in Bill of Lading, misalignment of the blue line at the end of the spreadsheet (don’t know if this is significant)
  • in line 991 of the Common Library, the data type is text and the example is a URI (again, don’t know if this is significant)
  • in Receipt Advice, the ASBIE to Line is not the last element (yet again, don’t know if this is significant)
  • there is still a Document Status Code in Despatch Advice, Forwarding Instructions and Receipt Advice; is this correct ?

on behalf of sylvia - who is hopefully asleep, i can add that the TC wanted to have some other eyeballs to review these edits before they were caste into stone as part of the schemas.  we saw a canference call as an efficient way of running through what you propose and signing off.

so it would be less value to have a call without you. if sylvia's time is inconvenient then can you propose another.

we need to conclude this in the next few days if we want the changes to go into the final package.

also, i am assuming you have also incorporated the changes already flagged in the previous review.

the UBL/TBG1 report is useful because we would all appreciate this perspective going into the CEFACT Forum.  Unfortunately I cannot attend but Sylvia will be there (albeit with her TBG6 hat on).  It would be useful to talk over the differences in approach before you get to New Delhi.

The spreadsheets I am working on are the PRD3 final spreadsheets.  I hope to finish the work today.

Vis-à-vis the convergence work with TBG1, I am happy to report that we are on target with the plan and that we have completed mapping the Invoice, Credit Note, Debit Note and Remittance Advice but for a few issues of a structural nature.  We are now working together with a good level of understanding and purpose.

In summary, the issues relate to the use of core components and the assembly of documents from the same.  Whereas we have adopted a “library’ approach (where we need a BBIE in a document, we bring it to the document in the context of its ABIE using an association), TBG1 have gone for a “picking” approach which brings the BBIE to the document without its neighbours in the ABIE.  Neither of us have any overwhelming advice that either of these approaches is the correct one and we will need some urgent advice on these issues from the relevant UN/CEFACT groups for the convergence work to produce a unified standard of implementable substance.

In the meantime, we will continue with the convergence work and hold the results in abeyance for the official UN/CEFACT direction on core component use and message assembly.

I’m sure that Martin will be able to go into some detailed examples to illustrate these points at the meeting tomorrow.  I will try to attend, but can’t guarantee that I won’t still be in the visa queue at the Indian High Commission in London.

I haven’t seen any minutes for the Pacific call you refer to.  Please can you let me know what questions were raised and I will comment where I can.

Regards, Mark
