Subject: Re: [ubl] [OASIS Issue Tracker] (UBL-28) Support for Verified Gross Mass

This is the CEFACT IPR, I think Tim has a deeper knowlege in this.

We are following the recent update of the SOLAS convention (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) governed by the International Maritime Organization body (IMO).
We are not following European regulations, there may be per-country differences in the application of SOLAS, but implementation guidelines are available at SMDG and I would use this to ensure we have all required data.

I'll work on it and let you know.

Ken Holman commented on UBL-28:
-------------------------------

During the Atlantic call:
- Ole supports the inclusion of the information somehow in UBL and supports the idea of a new document type ... thus the UBL committee would serve the community by providing an XML equivalent to the EDIFACT message
- Ken asked the question: can we simply add a new ABIE with the weight value and the document reference to the certificate information in another already-standardized document?

Roberto, can you please mock up a new UBL document type in the spreadsheet that would be satisfy an XML user of the information found in a VERMAS EDIFACT message? Are there issues of copyright? Probably not, if what we are doing is merely reflecting the European regulation for conveying information. If we base our document type on the regulation and it happens to match (or exceed) the information expressed in EDIFACT, then we are probably okay.

Would we still need an ABIE with which to point to this new UBL document from other transportation documents?
