Subject: RE: [regrep] RE: [uddi-spec] ebXML Registry / UDDI Convergence

Anne,

My perspective is that there isn't really sufficient reason to pursue a
convergence of these specifications, primarily for all of the reasons that
David Weber mentioned in your attached, but also because UDDI was and
continues to be intended as an efficient, highly focused registry solution
for Web services. I view ebXML as broader and less uni-focused in this
regard. I think there are certainly some valuable concepts in one that
might make sense in the other, but that alone does not indicate a merge is
appropriate.

I think your approach of doing work to define a set of related Technical
Notes and UDDI tModels to describe ebXML registries is a good one that our
TC should probably pursue, along with a large number of other Technical
Notes which were dropped due to the timing of the move to OASIS.

I would certainly propose a few technical notes. (I co-authored one for
ebXML a while ago which spoke about using UDDI to find ebXML registries.) I
proposed a much more extensive effort to create a set of UDDI tModels that
describe ebXML registries, the APIs to access ebXML registries, as well as
uddi-org:types categorizations to represent ebXML services, but I was met
by
quite a bit of resistance from the ebXML team.

I'd propose that we start a joint subcommittee to explore integration
strategies.
