Subject: intention to become a Prospective Member of UDDI Spec TC

Dear Tom,

I intend to become a member of the UDDI TC. I am a Professor of Robotics and CS at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

I am a Principal Investigator of a Darpa DAML project on semantic web services. My research group at CMU has been working on DAML-S/OWL-S language for semantic web services. We have implemented various tools to enable the operation of OWL-S based semantic web services, such as WSDL2OWL-S tool, the OWL-S Virtual Machine that allows automated invocation of a web service by a software agent requester, and, most relevant to this TC, an OWL-S based semantic matchmaking engine that could be used standalone but also has been integrated with UDDI. See our webpage www.cs.cmu.edu/~softagents for more information on our projects and the Semantic Web Services in particular.

I have been an Invited Expert on the W3C Web services Architecture Working group and I am the US co-chair (along with Dieter Fensel as the EU co-chair) of the Semantic Web Services Initiative (SWSI) www.swsi.org, and a founding member and member of the board of the Semantic Web Science Association (SWSA)  whose mission is to promote research and publication activities related to Semantic Web technologies. I served as the Program Chair for the Second International Semantic Web Conference in October 2003.

My interest in joining the UDDI TC is to contribute to semantic brokering of Web Services, and more generally, to the integration of semantics in descriptions of Web service capabilities and also matching algorithms for the automated discovery of providers and requesters.

 Respectfully,

 --Katia Sycara
