Submission of the UDDI v3 Specification (version 3.0.2) for consideration as an OASIS Standard

It gives us great pleasure to write the following. As a result of a unanimous vote of the UDDI Spec Technical Committee conducted on 29 October 2004 as recorded at http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/uddi-spec/ballot.php?id=584&, the co-chairs hereby submit the UDDI v3.0.2 Committee Draft for consideration as an OASIS Standard. The specification has already gone through a 30 day public review period in accordance with the OASIS Technical Committee Process.

Please accept below our submission:

1. A formal specification that is a valid member of its type, together with appropriate documentation for the specification, both of which must be written using approved OASIS templates

The Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) protocol is a key member of the group of interrelated standards that comprise the Web services stack.  It defines a standard method for publishing and discovering the network-based software components of a service-oriented architecture.

The UDDI Version 3.0.2 Specification describes the Web services, data structures and behaviors of all instances of a UDDI registry.

2. A clear English-language summary of the specification

This material, in the currently-recommended OASIS format, is available on the TC web site along with their English-language summary at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/uddi-spec/tcspecs.shtml#uddiv3. 3. A statement regarding the relationship of this specification to similar work of other OASIS TCs or other standards developing organizations

The UDDI v3 specification builds on top of the OASIS UDDI v2 Standard. This version of the specification has been designed to be used in combination with other complementary Web services specifications. UDDI Version 3.0 builds on the vision of UDDI: a "meta service" for locating web services by enabling robust queries against rich metadata. Expanding on the foundation of the OASIS UDDI v2 Standard, UDDI v3 offers the industry a specification for building flexible, interoperable XML Web services registries useful in private as well as public deployments.

4. Certifications of Use

The chairs are pleased to report that seven OASIS organizational members have provided attestations with respect to successfully using UDDI V3, as required by the OASIS TC Process. In addition, the chairs are also pleased to report that there are at least four known implementations of the UDDI v3 Committee Specification each of which emanating from vendor organizations:

7. History of previous OASIS standardization attempts

This version of the UDDI v3 specification has not been previously submitted to OASIS. UDDI v2 is an OASIS Standard.
