This is about updates the context passed by reference. As Peter says:

 

"setContents replaces the whole – there is no update ability. This seems very cumbersome. Additions will be common (though perhaps full support for XPath-based updates would be too complex)"

 

My temptation is to leave it as is for now and wait for a use case that doesn't fit with the all-or-nothing approach. An alternative, as Peter points out, would be to allow XPath expressions. Now, I'm happy with that too, but only as long as someone else champions it and writes the text ;-)
