Toby welcomes suggestions on how to work on this. 4. Discuss issues * Discuss draft FAQ Item deffered pending input; related to action item Kavi #0001. * Classification of how many things are WS-Calendar Gershon Janssen: Suggestion to first read up on document WD02 http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/ws-calendar/download.php/37135/WS-Calendar-1%200-spec-wd-02.pdf Gershon Janssen: Item moved to next weeks agenda. * OS timestamping / William Cox Gershon Janssen: B: explains fundamental idea on OS timestamping Gershon Janssen: 2 times are kept in OS: time of day in seconds from epoch (1970), subsecond time Gershon Janssen: objects managing timestaps should have sync amongst each other Gershon Janssen: format of timestamp should be clear to all objects using it Gershon Janssen: timestamping at granularity level of seconds should be enough Gershon Janssen: System 5 release 4 time standard should be used as Bill suggests Gershon Janssen: Granularity of time we should be using should be related to granularity as defined in ISO80601; second level seems sufficient. Gershon Janssen: Two issues (1) How fine we describe and (2) in what domain the resolution is meaningfull Gershon Janssen: Requirement we have is an assertion of accuracy required Gershon Janssen: Benoit: there is an issue as not always there is a choice on format of time Gershon Janssen: Bill: two items -- (1) how to format the time (2) Quality of Time data Gershon Janssen: T: Difference between granularity and accuracy Gershon Janssen: Quality of Time or time domain is an important aspect related to the spec Gershon Janssen: T: Timestamp is a low level object in the spec Gershon Janssen: T: maybe we can come up with a quality of timestamp description consisting out of 3 or 4 elements from the discussion Gershon Janssen: Benoit: quality of timestamp -- see OPC 3.0 spec for some interesting insights Gershon Janssen: Benoit: timestamp type -- is there anything in the reference documentation from OASIS related to the basic types which could be reused? Toby Considine: Action: Benoit to provide references to OPC 3.0 specs on time Toby Considine: WTC: Reliable Messaging as a source? Gershon Janssen: Bill: doesn't think there is something, but maybe there is something in WS-Reliable Messaging area. Toby Considine: GUID for the organizing entity? Gershon Janssen: Sequence numbers could help with times not being completely synced; Gershon Janssen: T: maybe source and sequence should be specified with a timestamp Gershon Janssen: Items to address: resolution, accuracy, how to carry this information, sequencing within a particular realm. Gershon Janssen: Bill: research needed in timestamping area -- there might be things specified in other specs already Gershon Janssen: T: this is one of the realms not fully specified in the iCalendar spec Gershon Janssen: T: WS-Calendar will maybe different from iCalender on this item Gershon Janssen: Benoit: we will not find something on fine grained time specification, but there is some on time syncing -- resolution and accuracy on the clock should be included in time for e.g. devices Gershon Janssen: T: we have a concept of interval and granularity on interval sets; is granularity in this dicussion the same? Gershon Janssen: Reminders in iCalendar are defined to remind in minutes, hours, week, etc. so the subject of interval could maybe reuse the iCalendar elements on this Gershon Janssen: T: We have a couple of perspective on the subject to timestamping -- can each of the proposers send some paragraphs on there perspective to the list for dicussion during the next meeting? Gershon Janssen: Benoit: will create a short outline on timestamping, data timestamping in OPC, etc. Gershon Janssen: Benoit: is off next week and will not join the next meeting, but can send something in 1.5 week Gershon Janssen: Action Item Benoit, due in 1.5 weeks for discussion in 2 weeks during the TC call 5. Any Other Business? Gershon Janssen: T: agenda items for next week -- read up on WD02; comments are most welcome Gershon Janssen: T: look into documents in document section in Kavi Gershon Janssen: T: look at links on EIS Alliance Use Case Version 2.0 Gershon Janssen: Benoit: for next weeks agenda: when exchanging information w/timestamping, requirement on source and destination clock awareness for timestamping -- you otherwise never know where the time comes from. Gershon Janssen: Benoit: maybe some short text about this in the spec in order to determine source of the timestamp Gershon Janssen: T: other topic for future week: sequence and time expectations -- determine if this in in / out of scope of WS-Calendar spec 6. Adjourn Gershon Janssen: Meeting adjourned Jeremy J. Roberts: time() = 1270227780
