Document: DPWS Location (defaults to line number): 541 Owner: Antoine Mensch Description: It is not clear whether the specification allows recursive hosting of services: the wording seems to allow it, as Hosts are described in terms of services and not devices. On the other hand, two aspects of the specification tend to indicate a single level of hosting: (i) the main purpose of hosting is to let the host (device) advertise itself and its hosted services through a single discovery message, thus avoiding multiple multicast messages. As hosted services are not supposed to be part of the discovery infrastructure (they will not advertise themselves), it does not seem very useful to let them have hosted services themselves. (ii) the rules for implied values for missing Host or Hosted elements do not work well in case of multiple levels of hosting: assume D is a device, A a hosted service hosted by D, and B a hosted service hosted by A. What should be the values (both explicit and implied) of Host and Hosted in the response to a Get sent to A? Proposed resolution: This point needs clarification. There does not seem to be clear requirements for recursive hosting (except perhaps moving UPnP models to DPWS)
