This makes sense—we want services to advertise all of their types.  I can’t think of any real reason why a service would want to omit its types (arguably “security” and size constraints—but I can’t think of a scenario where omitting types aids “security,” or where the types are too large to transmit).

A device implementer may omit types for message size constraints, but he can also take care when he designs the device, what he really should do when implementing dpws on devices with such high constraints.

We would probably want to make this change on both Host and Hosted services (along with Antoine’s changes for issue 127).

Thanks

Subject: New Issue for DPWS

Description: No reliable way to retrieve port types of services
Document: wsdd-dpws-1.1-spec-wd-02
Line number:

Both the service type fields of the relationship metadata and the WSDL section in an Get Response by a service are optional. There should be ONE way to retrieve the types, supported by a service. At the moment there is no reliable way to retrieve all types of an service. This problem exists especially for generic clients.

Proposed solution: Make types field in the Hosted field mandatory.
