Subject: Groups - New Action Item #0136 Vipul & Antoine to find alternative solutions to WS-DD Annnouncements in Managed Mode
OASIS Web Services Discovery and Web Services Devices Profile (WS-DD) TC member, Mr. Devon Kemp has created a new action item. Number: #0136 Description: Vipul & Antoine to find alternative solutions to WS-DD Annnouncements in Managed Mode Owner: Vipul Modi Due: 15 Sep 2009 Comments: Mr. Devon Kemp 2009-08-27 20:47 GMT From the July 16th meeting minutes: WSDD-8: WS-Discovery - Announcement messages in case of managed mode. Antoine presented Input for issue resolution.pptx - a powerpoint presentation. Document was emailed out July 16th to the group. Discussion regarding how to maybe re-use TargetService portType. Basically, the issue solution requires notifications (in a managed network) of when devices join and leave the network (same as disclosed in Antoines presentation). Pushing vs. Polling. Some concern on whether we have enough information on the problem space. Following questions were raised regarding this issue: 1) Do (or will) the scenarios represent a "real world" problem that will be seen in a large enough segment of the DPWS environments. 2) The eventing specification is undergoing some amount of change on its way toward standardization in WSRA. As a result, is it too early to resolve this? 3) Is there another way to resolve the problem which will have no impact to the specification at all? or is there a way which would have a perceived lesser impact to the specification? Action Item (Vipul & Antoine) to work together to try and find alternative solution(s) and present their work at a future TC.
