Subject: RE: [ws-i-ms] Re: WS-I Steering Committee nominations open
Scott, I’ve already notified Jim that I want to add this to the Board Meeting Agenda next week. My intent will be to get it designated as an Action Item, so that it is taken up by the appropriate Committee. I don’t consider the Process Committee to be the “appropriate” Committee; although at this time the Member Section Policy is their jurisdiction. From: ws-i-ms@lists.oasis-open.org [mailto:ws-i-ms@lists.oasis-open.org] On Behalf Of Scott McGrath Mike, this extension is in the policy approved by the board. It was intended to compress the total time of elections by allowing for 2 nomination periods, but only one ballot period - where the old policy required 2 nominations and 2 ballots. It was also intended to encourage member participation. That said, now that we are closing in on 2 years of activity under this policy we are analyzing all the elections to see if this particular part of the policy has served the members' benefit. I hear your opinion clearly on the subject, and anecdotally, I'd bet you are right - it could well be a waste of time. After I tabulate all the elections I'll be reporting the result to the board and if we are right in our personal assessments, we'll have the data to encourage a policy change in the direction of simplicity! Thanks for your interest in making things better. Scott... From: ws-i-ms@lists.oasis-open.org [mailto:ws-i-ms@lists.oasis-open.org] On Behalf Of Scott McGrath Nomination correction and update: Previous emails incorrectly reported five seats available for nomination On 2/26/2013 The Steering Committee voted to reduce the size of the Steering Committee to eight seats, making four seats available for this nomination period. Nominations closed yesterday with all four expiring SC members seeking reelection. The Member Section Policy requires extending nominations one time when nominations do not create a contested ballot. Therefore nomination will be extended until 28 January to accommodate any other members who wish to join the process. the nomination process is described below. The Steering committee ballot will open on 29 January without further delay. Scott... On Mon, Dec 30, 2013 at 2:57 PM, Scott McGrath <scott.mcgrath@oasis-open.org> wrote: OASIS members: -- -- |
