I’m arguing for only one WD. Do an
ED with the nits applied then reorder and give the TC the WD. These are
editorial issues that shouldn’t have slipped into the CD anyway.
You can tell me it isn’t hard to
find the line numbers after they change but I have very recent experience that
suggests otherwise. When I started my careful read of the CD I started with the
nits I reported against wd-05 with line numbers and had trouble finding them.
After just starting again by reading the doc through I started to find them,
however the line numbers were not helpful. As to me not having to worry about
it, perhaps if I didn’t care but I do. I regret not taking the time to
check the CD that Gil gave us for review before publishing it and have every
intention of carefully reviewing drafts before they advance to the next stage
from now on.
I agree it delays things a bit. My
argument is it is worth it. It will take longer to apply and review that these
edits have been applied after a reorder. Take a smaller hit upfront than a
longer one on the back.
Ultimately you guys are doing the work on
this. I’ve made my point; you guys make the call on what you’re
going to do.

I don't think finding the right line # in the new version,
after the reorder, is that big of an issue - let the editors worry about it. As
the issue owner you should not have to worry about it. One of the reasons
we waited until after the CD to do the reordering was so that it would be the
only change people would need to view. If we did your nits then we would
have to publish a WD and then do the reorder and publish the WD again. Doing
the reorder now we only need to publish one WD - the 2nd one is optional based
on the number of changes (including your nits) we have. In the big scheme
of things its not that big of a deal - I'd just like to get the reorder out of
the way ASAP so we can make all of these pending changes. Doing the nits
now delays it even more.

Who is going to track all of the nits I filed on
the CD? Every one of those line numbers is going to change. I don’t like
the thought of having to reread the doc to find ach and every one of those
again.
Let’s go back to the principle of why we started
talking about reviewing stuff before publishing it. Why would we publish a new
WD with that many nits in it? I don’t think that serves the TC members or
us. I doubt anyone is going to be upset that those editorial issues were fixed
between the CD and the reordered WD. Getting this done now will be easier on
whoever does it and take far less time than doing it afterwards. Do it
afterwards and it will take even longer to review s well.

Then don’t we want to get this Editor’s Draft in front of the TC
since this effort has to be adopted before making more edits otherwise the
subsequent edits would be at risk!

I forget exactly how it was agreed to, but I told Doug I would take care of
that item; wsrm-1.1-spec-wd-06 on the editor's page contains the changes for
i047.
