Subject: RE: [wsbpel] Proposed liaison with CEFACT BPWG BCF effort

Dave,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond sooner - you may take this as formal notification that the WS BPEL TC has approved a liaison with the CEFACT BPWG BCF effort and that Tony has graciously agreed to be our representative.    We did discuss the point that our liaison should not be an active member of your group and Tony felt this was acceptable if you agreed.

Hi Tony,
Haven’t heard from you in a while! Missed you on the BPSS calls.
I am still waiting for a formal message back from Diane or John, as the BPEL Chairs, but I will take your word you got stuck (sorry elected J) with the Liaison role from the BPEL side. From my side we have yet to announce the liaison for the TMG, so in the meantime just use me till I can delegate the role.

Just one thing, they/Diane-John did tell you that if you accept the role (to represent BPEL) we agreed each liaison would not be an active member in the other team; which means you become just (stay?) an observer on the UN/CEFACT side. I know you have been active in the TMG so I really hate to see you move over, but I’m happy for the BPEL TC’s gain.

The Liaison will between TMG and BPEL, group to group level, but on our side we will be focusing much of the liaison information on the BCF (which is the new UN/CEFACT brand name for the full UMM). Of course we’ll keep you informed of all the TMG work. More detailed BCF information to follow.

Thanks
-Dave

FW: [wsbpel] Proposed liaison with CEFACT BPWG BCF effort

Dear Dave,

Greetings to you - I hope you are keeping well.  You may have already heard, but just to let you know, if not, the OASIS WSBPEL Technical Committee approved the motion mentioned below at their meeting today (20 Aug 03).  After voting to establish this liaison with the UN/CEFACT TMG BPWG BCF group they then voted unanimously for me to be that liaison person.  (You may well doubt my sanity for volunteering!!)

I will take a read of the overview document mentioned below to get an idea of what it is about.  Do you have any other material I should take a look at (draft spec or anything else?).  As you know I have some familiarity with UMM etc. but I have been out of the loop for awhile and BCF is a new term to grapple with!

Is there a separate email list for BCF work I should join?  Is the group holding conference calls - if so when is the next one and I will try to join in - or more broadly how is the work of the group being progressed and what are the meeting schedules?

Best Regards,

Tony

I sent the note below without the link to the referenced overview of BCF.   Here it is:

Subject:        Proposed liaison with CEFACT BPWG BCF effort

The liaison subgroup met with the chair of the CEFACT BPWG group, Dave Walsh, last week to discuss a potential liaison with the Business Collaboration Framework (BCF) effort in that group.   I've posted an overview of BCF that John Evedemon on our web site at:

Based on the objectives of the BCF effort, it seems a liaison to maintain awareness of the status in both groups is worth considering and if there is quorum at the call this Wed., Aug. 20, we will present the following motion.  If not, we will post this as a ballot on the website after Sept.1.

Motion:

We move to establish a liaison with the CEFACT BPWG BCF group to:
1) enable a communications path between the groups
2) provide a focal point for monitoring status and planning any possible joint activities.

The WS BPEL TC member to be named by the TC and selected by vote of the TC will:
1) act as the liaison and communicate to the TC the status of the ongoing
interactions with the CEFACT BPWG BCF group via the Minutes Document as well
as reports during the Conference Call.

2) Will bring motions to the TC as appropriate regarding any specific action the TC may wish to take relative to this liaison.

3) Ensure that the cross committee interactions conform to the OASIS Liaison Policy.

Note, we will select a volunteer to act as liaison separately.  In order to avoid conflict of interest, the CEFACT BPWG chair has requested that we select a liaison who is not a current member of the BCF group, but who is willing to join their group as an observer to fulfill this role.   Similarly, they plan to select a representative from their group who will join the WS BPEL TC as an observer.  We've verified with the Oasis staff that this meets the liaison policy.
