Subject: Quick update: 2/10 call
- From: "John Evdemon" <John.Evdemon@microsoft.com>

Hello
all,
Believe it or not we
finally had a call today! Please accept my apologies for canceling past
calls - I've been a bit swamped by my "real job" on this
end...
Dieter and I were
the only ones on the call. I posted an updated draft of the primer
here:
Here is a list of
the changes in this version:
- Replaced Basic
Concepts section with scenario from Thomas Erl's book (see Documents section
for an MS-Word version of the original source). (Thomas: I tweaked the
description of the scenario since the context was hard to follow without
having the rest of your book available.) Justification: Thomas' scenario is
simpler and I see no reason to simply repeat the scenario used in the spec
itself. Since this is a Primer we want things to be simpler, yes?
- Answered most of the questions in the FAQ with fairly short
blurbs. Please review the FAQ - what other questions should we include here?
(Note: does anyone want to tackle the "what's changed between 1.1 and 2.0
question? Its apparently not going to be included in the actual spec.
- Added a special
thank-you to Thomas in the acknowledgements section (with a short plug for his
book that is the source for this content)
Still
to-do:
- Format TOC headers
within the Basic Concepts section and rebuild the TOC/index (will leave
formatting stuff until last)
- Dieter and Simon
have been working on content for the Basic Concepts section and will merge it
into the content from Thomas' book
- Advanced section -
Dieter and Simon are
planning to develop content for this section as well but have not yet
started. I plan to take an initial crack and generating some content
targeting the value of abstract processes for Section 7.2 - let me know if
this is something you would like to assist
with!
- Determine if
history/goals/etc can be moved into the WS-BPEL spec. I think they
should. I've contacted the spec editing team but nothing came of
it. I may simply join the spec ed team and drive the effort push this
stuff into the spec myself..
Action Items for
everyone before the next call:
- Have a look at the
current draft posted at http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/wsbpel-primer/download.php/16618/wsbpel-primer-draft-05.rtf and
post some feedback. Feel free to make changes to this doc (make sure
"track changes" is enabled). I'm especially interested in getting
feedback on:
- The FAQ: what
questions are missing here? How accurate are the answers I plugged
in?
- Suitability of
Thomas Erl's scenario. Again, its much simpler than the scenario in
the spec but given this is a primer I think a simpler scenario is
appropriate. What do you think?
- Read over the
content from Thomas' book that I plugged into the Basic Concepts section -
is it sufficient?
- Let me know if you
would like to assist with Section 7.2, focusing on the value of abstract
processes.
Our next call will
be on 2/24 starting at 11 AM ET. (we're back to a bi-weekly
schedule). Call in information is below:
