Subject: RE: [wsbpel] Guidelines [Was RE: [wsbpel] This telcon process doesn't work!]

Ben, et al,
Nice!

Over the weekend, I also tried to freshen up a bit on my recollection of
basic RROO. I bumped into this (http://www.rulesonline.com) nicely presented
version, which some may also find to be a convenient reference.

Also, I believe our TC chairs posted a nice grid-formatted cheat sheet to
the basics under 'Recent Documents' on the BPEL TC home page. That appears
to be the shortest route to the absolute basics for participating in the
meeting effectively.

After my refresh and some reflection, I'm convinced that while strict
adherence to RROO by all would allow things to work sufficiently (if only
minimally) on a conf-call, we can pretty easily do much better, as per some
of the recent suggestions for WebEx-like web-based systems (e.g., Gavenraj
Sodhi) and/or irc/chat systems (e.g., David Burdett, Harvey Reed).

I agree with Steve Ross-Talbot that one key attribute is to provide
visibility to all attendees of the current speaker queue. The web-based
systems provide this, I think.

Finally, adding the dimension of a chat line running in parallel with the
RROO-controlled formal discussion is a bit more complex (but also very
interesting from a collaborative workflow standpoint). Actually, here's an
idea (maybe this is what some of you meant in the first place):
- Keep the main call pretty much as-is - listen-mode, speaker queue, maybe
minor mods as per prior posts, web-enhanced
- Add one IRC channel for "whispering and passing notes" (but note that
these are visible to all, and probably logged and archived; of course folks
may also have private chats going as well)
- Add a second IRC channel for "points of order", for raising issues related
to how the meeting is being conducted - this would allow for the 'meta'
interrupts we needed last time without needing to muck with the speaker
queue

Just some thoughts.

HTH,
Rand

Although not directly applicable to telephone or online conferences, here
are some URL's for RROO.

the 1915 original
http://www.constitution.org/rror/rror--00.htm

an abridged version:
http://www.robertsrules.org/

a chart:

Perhaps these or, if a revised version if it says anything different, could
be posted on the TC web site, or better yet, on Oasis web site.
