Subject: RE: [wsbpel] Q: Licensing of BPEL - example site?

David,
ActiveBPEL, LLC is an open source organization that licenses BPEL engine technology (the ActiveBPEL engine) via www.activebpel.org.  The ActiveBPEL engine is currently licensed under the GNU General Public License.  The ActiveBPEL engine is also a core technology in Active Endpoints’ (the parent of ActiveBPEL, LLC) commercial products.  ActiveBPEL’s licensing policies endeavor to be completely consistent with OASIS and BPEL’s contributors.  You can learn more about those policies by reviewing the activebpel.org site and, in particular, the page for which David has provided a link.

The ActiveBPEL engine currently implements 100% of the BPEL4WS 1.1 spec.  As the OASIS TC approaches completion of WS-BPEL 2.0 spec, we will upgrade the engine to support that spec level.

Although the ActiveBPEL project does not fall under the purview of OASIS, we invite any OASIS member (and any other organization, for that matter) to use the ActiveBPEL engine technology as a means of promoting BPEL’s adoption.  That is specifically the reason we made the technology available under open source.  Since www.activebpel.org opened its doors this past July, the site has recorded many thousands of downloads of the ActiveBPEL engine.  Hopefully, the availability of this technology will help organizations to determine where BPEL best fits into their IT roadmaps.

HTH

Frank

Subject: [wsbpel] Q: Licensing of BPEL - example site?

Question - is this site -

 http://www.activebpel.org/licensing/index.html

in compliance to the BPEL licensing requirements?

Is the implementation compatible with the current work in OASIS?

I'm just trying to figure out if this work is an orphan or something that
comes under the work here of this TC.

Thanks, DW
