I think the wording is that way because
it was talking about acronyms not the specs themselves - or sort of anyway.
;-)
I think your suggestion is fine - but
then we should change the rest of the sentence too. How about:
From:
WS-BPEL
is a revision of the original acronym BPEL4WS (Business Process Execution
Language for Web Services).
to:
WS-BPEL
2.0 is a revision of BPEL4WS (Business Process
Execution Language for Web Services)1.0
and 1.1.
