Charter for OASIS Web Services Business Process Execution
Language (WS-BPEL) Adoption Committee Overview The OASIS Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL)
Adoption Committee members will collaborate to provide expertise and resources
to educate the marketplace on the value of the WS-BPEL OASIS Standard. By
raising awareness of the benefits offered by WS-BPEL, the Committee increases
the demand for and availability of WS-BPEL conforming products, resulting in a
greater choice of tools and platforms and expanding the WS-BPEL community of
users, suppliers, and developers. Name The OASIS Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL)
Adoption Committee Historical Background The OASIS WS-BPEL Technical Committee was formed in 2003 to enable users to
describe business process activities as Web services and define how they can be
connected to accomplish specific tasks. See
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ wsbpel/. Statement of Purpose The purpose of the OASIS WS-BPEL Adoption Committee is to create awareness
and demand for applications and solutions designed specifically to support and
leverage WS-BPEL in the marketplace. The Committee will dedicate its energy and
resources to create wide-scale understanding of the benefits of WS-BPEL use
within organizations through education and promotion. By advancing the adoption of WS-BPEL within OASIS, the Committee
members: 1. Collaborate within the security of the OASIS open process; 2. Maximize message credibility by working on behalf of a vendor-neutral
standards consortium; 3. Build on existing market awareness of OASIS as the source of WS-BPEL;
4. Leverage the combined resources of all participants; 5. Reinforce WS-BPEL as the result of an open, transparent process guided by
multiple vendors, communities and individuals; and 6. Openly share content, and coordinate program execution with other
entities that share a common or similar statement of purpose on a worldwide
scope. Working together, members of the OASIS WS-BPEL Adoption Committee will
provide expertise and resources to educate the marketplace on the value of the
WS-BPEL OASIS Standard, increasing the demand for WS-BPEL conforming products,
and expanding the WS-BPEL community and marketplace of users, suppliers, and
developers. Scope of work OASIS Adoption Committees activities may extend to any of the following
activities: 1. Oversee
an XML.org community web site (Focus Area) 2. Record
or address any errata raised regarding WS-BPEL 3. Stage
interoperability and/or proof-of-concept demonstrations at industry conferences
4. Host
educational, vendor-neutral webinars 5. Stage
vendor-neutral workshops and tracks at OASIS events and other conferences
6. Produce
OASIS-branded primer, white papers, position papers, slide presentations,
datasheets, and other collateral 7. Develop
best practice guidelines 8. Assist
in coordinating press and analyst relations such as briefings, releases, and
announcements 9. Establish
liaisons with other organizations, government agencies, trade groups 10. Assist in
coordinating promotional efforts of members, leveraging activities wherever
beneficial 11. Encourage and
coordinate volunteer efforts to translate the standard into other languages
12. Establish
certification programs 13. Develop
conformance suites 14. Interface with
other TCs to define how standards can be used
together to address specific scenarios 15. Other projects
aimed at increasing adoption as identified by Committee members This Committee will consist of volunteers from member organizations and will
conduct teleconferences and occasional face-to-face meetings. List of Deliverables Anticipated deliverables with target delivery dates include: 1. Updates
to WS-BPEL OASIS Standard Primer as appropriate 2. BPEL
XML.org Focus Area (2Q/2007), an online community web site, which will provide
educational information and links to materials created by this Committee, as
well as links to other third-party resources. Registered users will be able to
freely post BPEL-related news, events,product
listings, blogs, and forums. 3. White
papers (3Q/2007) 4. Position

studies (4Q/2007) 6. Showcase/InterOp Presentations (3Q/2007) or Proof-of-Concept demo

IPR Mode Anticipated Audience/Users We anticipate the work of the OA SIS WS-BPEL Adoption Committee will be used
by a number of groups to learn more about Business Process Execution
