Mark, We may actually be in agreement, but I know that we are talking past each other ... If we add John's two definition of manageability configuration and configurability, would the following changes to Manageability and Manageability Capabilities make sense?
(Defn unchanged) MANAGEABLE implies that a
resource can effectively be managed by a Manager
(Revised, new text in italics) MANAGEABILITY implies the existence of a sufficient set of manageability capabilities and a manageability configuration such that a resource is manageable
(Defn unchanged) MANAGER is the consumer of manageability capabilities offered by resources
(Revised, new text in italics) MANAGEABILITY CAPABILITIES include properties, operations and events exposed for the management of a resource. Note: These are defined at design/implementation of the resource. Some or all of these manageability capabilities may not be accessible, based on the manageability configuration of the resource.
(New) MANAGEABILITY CONFIGURATION is the set of meta data about a manageable resource's current state regarding its manageability capabilities
(New) MANAGEABILITY CONFIGURABILITY is the possible range of states of each manageability capability, for a given manageable resource
(Defn unchanged) MANAGEMENT i
s the utilization of the manageability capabilities by a Manager.(Defn unchanged) MANAGED implies that a resource's manageability capabilities are actively being utilised by a Manager.
(Defn unchanged) MANAGEABILITY INTERFACE is the interface through which manageability capabilities are exposed.
(Defn unchanged) MANAGEABILITY ENDPOINT is the address at which the managebaility interface can be accessed.

I'm making a distinction that is critical to management especially in Web and Grid environments where management resources are very loosely coupled and discovery and self description are key facets in the architecture.
