Subject: RE: [wsdm] AI: Definitions of some hard terms

1. You said [·
An Endpoint
Reference (EPR) is a reference that allows the client to communicate with a
WS‑Resource.]
That is not very true, since an EPR is a reference that
allows a client to comminicate with a Web service endpoint.
EPRs could also be used to reference a WS-Resource, in that
case there is a WS-Resource Reference which is an EPR.
2. Should the Identity be described by all its mathematical
characteristics. (information used to disambiguate... conforms to the following
formulae...). Otherwise having the definition is worse than not having
one.
3. sameness by identity is NOT equal to the sameness by
reference. This has nothing to do with the EPR referring to
something.
4. I suggest that "value having a role of identity" is not
used, and "identifier" is used insted.
5. I think [·
A manageable
resource reference is used to allow a client to communicate with an entity: it
expresses a communication endpoint to an entity.] is misleading
and I suggest the following instead. [A manageable resource reference allows a
client to access the manageable resource.]
6. What is the difference between the name and just another
identifier of the resource, in your terms? Is it just the term of validity of
the information?

Hi,
I've been promising this for a while, I think that we struggle with
terms sometimes... and I think that having clear understanding of some common
terms: Identity, Name, Label, Reference would help us in some of our
conversations.
I'd like to propose the following as definitiions to be
used in WSDM:
(See attached file:
IdentityNameAddressDefinitions.doc)
Load up the arrows.
