WSN2.22: Pause/Resume message types

The pause/resume subscription message types are currently declared as

<xsd:element name="PauseSubscription" />

<xsd:element name="PauseSubscriptionResponse" />

<xsd:element name="ResumeSubscription" />

<xsd:element name="ResumeSubscriptionResponse" />

 

Since a "type" attribute is not specified in the above declarations, the type of these elements defaults to xsd:anyType, which  allows for arbitrary content.

Issue:  Unintentionally allowing arbitrary content for the elements listed above may lead to interoperability issues.

Proposed Recommendations

The type of the pause/resume elements should be explicitly specified in the schema.

Notes

Email discussion on this topic inclined towards allowing for extensibility of these elements. Where as some participants on the conf call on July 19, 2004 preferred these elements to be mandated as empty (in order to be consistent with the other message types in the specification that do not allow for unintentional extensibility!). The common agreement seems to be for explicitly defining the type of these elements, whether as empty or with arbitrary content.
