One other thing that I've noticed, though, is that images don't seem to be rendered correctly, i.e. they're garbled. Is this a known problem with the Consumer, or is this a result of something I as a Producer am doing incorrectly? Since this is an optional element, the deserializer could be not handling it being supplied without a value as it expects that case to be handled by not including it in the message at all. Since David Ward is in the UK, I suspect he will not be able to explore this further until tomorrow.
