Subject: RE: [wsrp] OS submission ballot

Hi Michael,

The intent is that you’re certifying that the specification up for OASIS ballot is usable – that is, it can be implemented, tested, etc. and therefore worthy of becoming a Standard. Using a prior version doesn’t really make any claims about the version up for OASIS Standard ballot. I hope that helps.

All the best,

Mary

With respect to this statement, does the statement only relate to last version (this submission) of the specification?  I.e. If our current implementation is still a revision or two behind, must I wait to (begin) upgrading to the latest before I can make this statement?

Mary McRae informs me that the OS submission ballot must also be a 7 day ballot run by the TC Admin. There must be 3 or more use statements prior to initiating this ballot.

The OASIS process rules say the following about such statements:

"Statement of Use", with respect to a specification, is a written statement by an OASIS Organizational Member stating that it is successfully using or implementing that specification in accordance with the conformance clauses specified in Section 2.18*, and stating whether its use included the interoperation of multiple independent implementations.

A recent example is:

We (IBM Belgium) are successfully using the EML specifications and schemas
in accordance with the conformance clauses specified in the Process and
Data Requirements document. Our use has included the interoperation of
multiple independent implementations (i.e. IBM Belgium - EDS).

The last sentence is only to be included if interop work with other implementations has occurred ...

For those needing to review the impact of the conformance clause statement, I would point at section 15 of the specification ...
