Subject: Re: [xcbf] [Fwd: What is the purpose of the XCBF standard?]

Hi Alessandro,
I agree with you that with Biometrics, the number of applications is
immense.
"Life Sciences" is a term newly coined by the computer industry
and very widely used now by computer software and hardware vendors to
designate this new field, which encompasses all applications related to
Biometrics
and beyond.
"Life Sciences" in this context is a heterogenous industry with many ranges
of
different industry segments (Pharmaceutic R&D, biometrics, bioinformatics,
genetics, eHealth (genomics), deep-computing (pattern analysis of genomic
-and proteomics - sequencing data), new chemical compounds,
new foods, new drugs, new medical devices, etc.
And that is not even an exhaustive list yet on serious topics.
And sure enough, there are many other topics
(not-so-politically-correct-to-talk-about
or not) as well, such as "terrorist tracking network" that people sent to
Phil below.

Ha! Ha! Do we realize what we sign up to do? Do we hold
in our hand the responsibility of future mankind?

Don't be scared. Together we can make it through XCBF standards. And I
believe we are doing very useful and important work for the world
community.
Like you said, the purpose of XCBF is immense.
We just need to define clearly the appl. areas we know as fact for now, and
we say
it is an "enabling technology" opening the door to many others in the
future.
 Best regards,

Hi Tyky

What do you mean exactly by "life sciences applications"?

I believe the purpose of XCBF standards is much wider than just life
sciences applications. Biometrics, and transmission of biometric samples
and templates, is an enabling technology for an immense number of
applications.
