Subject: RE: [xdi] An off-topic question regarding the Wiki

I'm not speaking on behalf of Oasis, but my understanding is that Oasis runs all the infrastructure associated with OASIS and they have a very deliberate, methodical approach to rolling out new infrastructure. A number of us have suggested Wikis before and its my understanding that they are going through a requirements collection phase for another round of TC tool "enhancements" (in quotes because some folks feel the Kavi rollout was not neccesarily a step forward).

We've certainly brought up the desirability of tools like Wiki and CVS (you can tell who comes from a software development background ;) ) -- I'm not sure where in the process things are.

Using these tools (esp Wiki) for standards development is a relatively new thing. Those of us using Wikis since the beginning have always thought they were great for this sort of activity, but its not obvious the advantages of the Wiki mode of interaction. Its somewhat subtle.

If you would like to send a word of encouragement for the use of Wiki, I'm sure the Oasis staff would be interested. http://www.oasis-open.org/who/staff.php (probably a short email to Karl Best, Jamie Clark, Jeffrey Lomas, and Robin Cover would be effective). Or even better, let Drummond continue to bang the drum for these tools on the chairs email list.

Subject: [xdi] An off-topic question regarding the Wiki

If all work must be done on the OASIS server, who controls the OASIS
servers? Is that a specific TC, or steering committee? Are they short on
servers, as one thought is that we could offer to manage a server on the
condition that we are allowed to run a wiki.

What do you think?

Bill
