Subject: Minutes: XDI TC Call Wed. 11/9 9AM-10AM Pacific
Following are the minutes of today's unofficial call: Date: Wednesday, 9 November 2005 USA Time: 09:00AM - 10:00AM Pacific Time Dial-in number: 218-936-6666 Access Code: 2647893 Present: Victor Les Jason Drummond Peter Steve AGENDA 1) REVISED CHARTER We discussed the feedback posted to the list about the revised charter. See the XDI email list archives on this thread at: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xdi/200511/threads.html We specifically looked at the v2 charter draft posted by Bill Barnhill at: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/15173/xdi-charter-02-v2.do c There was general agreement on Bills overall wording suggestions. The only issue discussed was committing to publishing an XMPP binding. The key issue was that the current XMPP work is not easily referenceable. The consensus was to put XMPP in scope of the potential bindings (as Bill's text did), but not to commit to a specific XMPP binding deliverable yet. There was also consensus to add XDI link contracts as a specific deliverable of the TC and to put it in the initial set (see the discussion below). # ACTION ITEM: Drummond to post v3 of the charter and then send it to Mary for review and feedback on the IPR portion. 2) PROPOSED PRIORITY OF LINK CONTRACT DEFINITION Victor had sent email proposing that the TC make it a priority to produce a Working Draft of XDI link contracts so that implementations can begin testing/using these in advance of other parts of our work being complete. See: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xdi/200511/msg00008.html There was a very good discussion of Victor's key point: that producing something as simple and useful as possible as early as possible should be a key goal of the TC, and that XDI link contracts fit that bill because they are one of the most easily understood and broadly useful parts of XDI architecture. Jason made the point that he finds that link contracts are the piece of XDI that potential users/communities instinctively "get" and want to put into use. Drummond made the point that this also aligns with the growing interest in "identity rights agreements" (see Phil Windley's blog post at http://www.windley.com/archives/2005/08/identity_rights.shtml) or "data sharing agreements" (see Andy's blog post at http://xditao.blogspot.com/2005/10/do-you-trust-me.html). There was consensus that the TC should make XDI Link Contracts 1.0 a separate discrete deliverable, and with a high priority. There was also consensus that we should begin work on this immediately, so that the first Working Draft is something that implementers can start experimenting with. Andy and Steve volunteered to get this started by posting information about ooTao's initial link contract design and implementation. # ACTION ITEM: Andy to post his initial link contract use cases and design proposal to the TC. # ACTION ITEM: Steve to post info about ooTao's publicly referenceable implementation. 3) NEXT CALL The call next week will be at the regularly schedule time and number, however Drummond will not be able to attend due to travel. The call the following week will also be held even though it's just before the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. =Drummond
