Subject: RE: [xdi] Agenda: XDI TC Telecon Thursday 8-9AM PT 2008-02-28
I took a look at XDI RDF V9 (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/27322/xdi-rdf-model-v 9.pdf) and I think this version is definitely an improvement on V8, but I still think it could be even more focused and the serialization still doesn't sit right with me (see earlier posted comments doc in TC Documents). I should however put my money where my mouth is, so I'm doing a V10 draft (plus other docs) over the weekend and will post the docs for review on Monday evening. One example of a serialization topic we haven't discussed is whether we will support a binary transmission protocol or whether all XDI traffic will be text. To this end I'll include in the serialization doc a new proposed serialization format, .1X3, which is a mapping of X3 syntax to ASN.1. This will allow binary transmission by applying ASN's BER (Binary Encoding Rules) to XDI RDF. Another thing I'd like to see with the base X3 serialization is a change from using [ and ]. Both Erlang and JSON use { and }, so in the new version I'll present a proposed new syntax that allows X3 notation to be loaded as JSON data or as an Erlang term (similar to .app files in Erlang applications).
