Subject: Minutes: XDI TC Telecon Thursday 1-2PM PT 2008-04-24
Following are so minutes for the unofficial telecon of the XDI TC at: Date: Thursday, 24 April 2008 USA Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM Pacific Time ATTENDING Fen LaBalme Kermit Snelson John Bradley Victor Grey Markus Sabadello Drummond Reed Bill Barnhill Giovanni Bartolomeo AGENDA 1) VOTE ON CO-CHAIR TRANSITION AND CHARTER CLARIFICATION Both ballots are open - please vote ASAP! Co-Chair Transition: http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/xdi/ballot.php?id=1451 Charter Clarification: http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/xdi/ballot.php?id=1456 2) DATA SHARING WORKSHOP John and Drummond reported that there was strong interest in XDI at the workshop. Several sessions focused on XDI and XDI-related data sharing applications, most notably ooTao's i-pages, which use the OpenSocial API in conjunction with XDI to connect to different data sources. Kevin Marks of Google pronounced i-pages "cool!" 3) UPDATE TO XDI RDF MODEL DOCUMENT V10 has been posted at: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/28080/xdi-rdf-model-v10.pd f The key change was to replace the $type predicate with the $a predicate because $a is the root of inheritance relations. This simplification further reinforces the utility of the XDI RDF metamodel and the $a, $is, and $has grammar. Giovanni reported that not all the example documents consistently use the $n format for numbered instances. # DRUMMOND to update V11 to correct these. 4) TERM "XDI LINK"? In recent discussions it has been proposed that when the object of an XDI statement is an XRI (in the XML serialization, a <ref> tag), we call this an "XDI link" because it is a link between two XDI resources. Bill's feedback was to make sure it didn't "muddy the waters" with regards to our term, "link contract". John mentioned that in the ATI model, a link is an explicit tag and always represents a link. Thus for the short term there might be some confusion between the two models. The conclusion was that we will continue to informally explore this to see how well it works or doesn't work. 5) TECH TOPIC: XDI DICTIONARY AND XDI REASONER Our tech topic this week was the XDI dictionary and XDI reasoner discussion we started on the list. Wikipedia has a good article on semantic reasoners: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Reasoner Drummond created a wiki page to capture the email thread for further discussion: http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xdi/XdiReasoners Our conclusion after talking over the recent email thread on this subject (see http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xdi/200804/msg00034.html) was that Giovanni was correct that you could not prove through the dictionary Drummond provided on the XdiReasoners wiki page that all six XDI addresses there identify the same literal because the dictionary had specified that +phone could be EITHER a literal or an object. # DRUMMOND to capture this on the wiki page. 6) REMINDER OF UPCOMING INFORMAL MEETINGS * Dinner on Thursday night, May 1, during the OASIS Open Reputation Management Systems (ORMS) TC meeting, Santa Clara, CA - more info to be sent to the list next week (probably mid-day Thursday) * Internet Identity Workshop + Data Sharing Workshop + XDI TC F2F, May 12-16, Mountain View, CA 7) FUTURE MEETINGS The Burton Catalyst conference will tentatively be attended by Bill, Drummond, Paul Trevithick, and probably John.
