Subject: Re: [xdi] EU funding for XDI research?

This is quite an old paper now Dan, likely if it were student authors they have moved on to new pastures by now. I mainly shared it as a good example of an academic R&D project featuring XDI.

What I especially liked about it was the focus on the intersection between XDI directories and the telco identity mechanisms. As per your research idea notes anything that i) also turns ideas into commercialization assets: Prototypes etc., and ii) does so for the benefit of xyz EU organization(s), will be very favorably received, and this seems very fertile areas for this kind of goal.

If it is advancing consumer privacy capabilities etc as part of this, and this can be documented explicitly in open research terms, then yes I would say that is a winning bingo line for sure.

I will review in detail and reply shortly with some specific next steps / R&D partner suggestions & discussions..

Kind regards, Neil.

This looks like a very interesting paper. Have you read it Markus and Drummond? Once we flesh out some of our ideas for additional projects to propose we might want to talk with the authors about partnering. It would also be interesting to know if they have their own XDI implementation, or are using Project Danube's.

Hi guys

Great to chat with you today. As I mentioned it reminded me of this white paper, a perfectly good example of a project that would still be relevant to the EU agenda today.

Defining the relationship to the telco identity world, IMSI etc, seems a really important technical aspect to cover, a possible theme to continue.. An ideal scenario to help accelerate commercialization, and it also touches on the personal data privacy aspects as we discussed.

Cheers,

Neil.

Markus, please suggest a time that works for you and hopefully for others on the TC. I'll join if I can (my schedule is very dynamic this week.)

Thanks,

Neil,

I agree with Markus that it does sound interesting. Let us know what might be a good time for a call and we'll see who can make it.

Best,

Hello Neil,

I think this sounds very interesting, and I'd like to learn more.
Would you have time for a call some time next week?

Hi folks

I am organizing research funding bids for the EU Horizon 2020 program.

They have categories for funding research that XDI would be relevant to - 'Future Internet', and they are actively looking to fund standards development, prototype work etc. So this could be ideal for any students following here.

See my briefing for this application here: http://tinyurl.com/cbpn-eu2020-bid

Let me know if you would be interested in submitting a sub-component proposal in this area...

Kind regards,
