REGRETS

Update on Publishing XDI Core 1.0 Committee Specification Draft 01

Drummond reported that he is still working on the final edits on the list from Chet and will submit this week.

XDI Messaging, Bindings, and Link Contracts

Markus is continuing to make progress with a goal of having new Working Drafts before the end of the year.

XDI Client App

Markus reported that the XDI2 open source project is working on a very simple XDI agent client app that they can use for testing protocol operations on an XDI endpoint.

XDI-LD

Drummond mentioned that he and Christopher Allen were discussing JSON-LD and its attractiveness to developers who want to start using semantic graph technology but still want to keep their JSON data structures as simple and intuitive as possible. Drummond asked if other TC members thought we should revisit the idea of an “XDI-LD”, i.e., an XDI serialization format that uses the JSON-LD approach of mapping the XDI graph model into JSON (vs. the direct XDI graph statement serialization format currently specified in XDI Core 1.0).

Markus said that he liked the idea, and that the TC had explored many JSON-based serialization formats for XDI in the past, including some that had special keywords similar to JSON-LD.

Joseph agreed that a serialization with a more traditional key-value format, similar to JSON-LD, could be attractive. Phil said it’s definitely worth exploring, but not at the expense of continuing to push on the main specifications that we need to implement operational XDI infrastructure, because we still have to prove why XDI is needed first. XDI-LD would just be a way of making that infrastructure more attractive to developers.

NEXT REGULAR CALL

The next call will be the following week at the usual time (Monday 10AM PT). The link to where agenda items can be posted for the next meeting is: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19oDl0lbb56Grehx2a5flZnhrgnua5l8cVvC_dJ8fTXk/edit?usp=sharing
