XDI TC Notes

Following are the notes of the unofficial telecon of the XDI TC held on:

The TC operates under a standing rule approved 17 July 2008 under which the TC does not hold regular official meetings and conducts all business by electronic ballot only. Unofficial weekly meetings are held to enable discussion among members but no business is conducted nor actions taken.

Android XDI agent demo

Markus demo’d an experimental work-in-progress XDI Android app that shows basic data sharing and messaging. It includes the following functionality:

• Establishing a link contract between an app (XDI agent) and a personal cloud (XDI endpoint)

• Sending connection requests and connection invitations from one personal cloud to another

• Accepting/Deleting connection requests and connection invitations

• Loading/Modifying/Saving basic profile data

• Triggering push link contracts to send notifications when data changes

Markus pointed out that this was a technical demo without good UI, but that he thinks it could be very effective with some additional effort on the UI side. Phil said he liked the aspect that cloud-to-cloud communication uses exactly the same mechanisms as cloud-to-agent communication. In both cases, the connections and messages are governed by similar link contracts. Markus explained his concept of “XDI routing”, which can deliver an XDI message from a sender to a recipient over any binding. Markus also said one goal of the demo is to illustrate how “data sharing” and “messaging” are similar use cases that use the same underlying XDI network functionality.
