My apologies to Andrzej Zydron for misspelling his name, below.
(Sorry, Andrzej)
-jr >>> "John Reid" <JREID@novell.com> 3/23/04 10:40:48 AM >>> Hi All,
I don't know how to enter this into Kavi so I'm sending it to the list. If I have something wrong, please let me know and I'll try to correct it.
Regards, jr
1. Roll Call > Magnus, Tony, Eiju, Andrezj, Christian; Apologies: Yves, Gérard
2. Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting > Tony moved, all approved
3. Change of Meeting Schedule - 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month to avoid clashes with TC meetings >> Magnus pointed out that a fortnightly schedule will eventually clash with the TC's 3rd Tuesday of the month schedule and proposed a schedule of the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. >> all approved >> Magnus will update schedule
4. Work in Progress a) Scenarios b) Use Cases c) Implementation Options >> Magnus briefed all on a document he authored and sent out a few hours before the meeting (due to technical difficulties), "Case for Segmentation in XLIFF". There was a number of discussion points raised during the briefing: >> Andrezj disagreed with the the statements concerning a filter's ability to segment a document. After a shhort discussion it was agreed to continue the discussion via an email thread. >> John and Tony questioned the reasoning behind the introduction and structure of the <segment> element. Tony pointed out that it seemed to only add another level that would still have all the same problems and suggested just using <trans-unit> in the same manner. Magnus justified the new element on the grounds that it needed to capture much the same data as captured in a <trans-unit> but that the <trans-unit> represents a hard boundary that cannot be altered because of the reliance on that element of the filters and skeleton file. Andrezj questioned the need to add segmentation complexity to XLIFF at all; instead proposing that the XLIFF is transformed into another form for segmentation and translation. >> Tony pointed out some differences between his own workflow and that represented in the document. Magnus acknowledged the possible variations. >> Magnus asked for any input from the group on updating the TM, workflows, and any other input on the document.
5. Any other business >> Christian pointed out the differences between views of segmentation held within the group.
