Subject: [xliff] minutes of the XLIFF TC held on January 7th.

Hi all,

The minutes of the XLIFF TC held on January 7th. are below. Thanks to John for completing them. I will update Tony's Open Issues document and forward that later (probably tomorrow morning).

Thanks,

Peter.

1/ Attendance: JonathanMark, Christian,  Bryan, Mat, Peter, John Reid, Gerard,  Mirek, Enda, Yves.

Observers: Doug, Milan

Apologies: Tony

2/ Minutes of the last meeting were approved as a correct record.

3/ Review all remaining Open Issues listed in the tracking report.

Item 2 - New elements default and defaults
John introduced this issue. There was little dissension but it was thought members ere not present might have comments. We decided to ask that members of the TC comment on this by next Tuesday. There would then be a vote on this topic at that meeting.

Item 4 Should be changed to 'Assigned to Editor'.

Item 5 Reformat element

Mat presented the document which he produced on the 'reformat' issue http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff/200301/msg00004.html . He also highlighted the importance of this from Oracle's perspective. An issue that was raised was the reformat attribute within spec version 1.0. It was also asked what happens if the reformat attribute had been set at the <trans-unit> level and was also used at a lower level.

It was decided to allow members to digest Mat's document, comment on it and discuss this next week.

Item 9 Attribute enumerated values

This discussion began with Christian mentioning some ideas he had shared with Yves about using browser technology to render the specification. This would enable a single source for the specification and schema.

There was some discussion on whether or not there was a need for more that one specification document.

Doug proposed the following resolution 'Enumerated values are listed in the specification document'. This was seconded by Mark and passed unanimously.

Item 12 - It was agreed that there would not be changes to the schema without changes to the spec.

Issue 10 - It was agreed to accept Mark's proposal on whitespaces. http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff/200301/msg00001.html

Issue 11

 - John & Enda addressed the difficulties of processing text with variable formatting such as extensions or other namespaces or XHTML or any other of a number of standard formats. John pointed out normalizing markup is typical processing for localization tools.
 - Doug and Brian were the main requestors of the proposal. They both felt that this issue could be tabled until a future release of XLIFF.
 - Mark felt that we should continue this discussion via the mailing list to the next meeting and decide whether to table it at that time. He would like more input from those that have TMX and matching experience. This was the consensus of the group. This item is still open until next meeting.

Issue 13
 - John presented his proposal briefly.
 - Mark proposed that it be accepted.
 - Enda seconded that.
 - Unanimously Passed, 0 dissents, 0 abstentions

4/Schedule of remaining work
No revision to the current schedule. We are still trying to stay on track.

5/Discussion and response to recent xliff-comment regarding resizing of RC type data within XLIFF - http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff-comment/200212/msg00000.html .  This query relates to Mat's "reformat" issue (issue # 6)
Mark pointed out that this is related to the reformat discussion. It should be reviewed by all before next meeting and discussed in context of the reformat discussion at that time.
 - This was agreed without dissent.

6/Any New Business
