Subject: FW: [xliff-comment] RelaxNG as an alternative/additional schema format for XLIFF
XLIFF TC, My understanding is that the W3C XML Schema is not normative. That is, it's a tool that implements the specification, but does not define the specification. So, if there is a difference between the specification and schema, the schema will be changed to conform to the specification. Therefore, RelaxNG would simply be another language in which to implement the specification. I recommend we invite Raymond Martin (and others) to submit a RelaxNG schema of the specification as another non-normative supporting document. I believe we can add this at any time, as we would profiles, and therefore it does not affect the schedule. If it has, could I know what the reasons were for not considering it? Else I would like to suggest that it be considered and I can help by supplying additonal information and assistance in this matter. Many document-oriented XML formats have started to adopt RelaxNG, including: OpenDocument Format, DocBook, RDF, Text Encoding Initiative, and others. It would seem worthy of consideration for XLIFF also. Any light you can shed on this point would be appreciated.
