STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR AGIS'09!


The Action week for Global Information Sharing (AGIS'09) is a
free event taking place in the University of Limerick 21 - 23 September 2009. It brings together freelance translators, localisation professionals and academics from all over the world to address the challenge of bridging the digital divide and facilitating the provision of localised digital information for all regions, regardless of their economic or cultural status.

LEARN

- 32 sessions of training, presentations, tutorials and workshops scheduled for the first two days (full programme available here)
- Sessions organised into 4 different streams: Terminology, Translator Field Kit (1), Translator Field Kit (2) and Management/Collaboration
- Topics covered include Terminology Management, Machine Translation, Internationalisation, Unicode, Cultural Issues and Localisation in the Web
- Terminology Tools, Machine Translation Systems and Open Source Software discussed
- Sessions delivered by over 30 different experts from the translation and localisation industry

- Launch of The Rosetta Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization aiming to advance the rights of individuals to access life-critical information in their native languages


SOCIALISE

- Partipicipate in a full day of fun social activities on the third and final day of AGIS'09
- Visit Doolin (a traditional fishing village renowned worldwide as the traditional music capital of Ireland), the Cliffs of Moher and the beautiful Aran Islands on a day trip to the scenic west coast of Ireland

Limerick City is served by flights to Shannon Airport (25 minute drive from the city centre); alternatively you can fly to Dublin Airport and take a train to Limerick City (2.5 hours). AGIS'09 takes place on the University of Limerick campus just outside Limerick City. Budget accommodation is available near the university campus at the Travelodge Hotel.
