Subject: RE: adding media type registration to the agenda and csd03/csprd03 status

Thank you David. I very much appreciate all the great work you're doing on this front (and all the other fronts).

I will add this item and allow for adequate floor time for you to present it. I will also add time to discuss the SOU issues, and time to compare our calendar to the real events as they are unfolding.

Thanks,

Bryan

Subject: [xliff] adding media type registration to the agenda and csd03/csprd03 status

Bryan, all,

as you saw last week, we have now filed TC Admin tickets for csd03/cprd03. However, if I read the data displayed on the TC admin page correctly, the processing time on the TC admin queue currently is about 21 days.
Therefore, although we have approved a public review draft in the last meeting it won't become official for some time..
Same as the last time, watch this url:
http://docs.oasis-open.org/xliff/xliff-core/v2.0/csprd03/xliff-core-v2.0-csprd03.html
and as long as this stays blank, the public review is not yet official and we cannot start receiving or logging csprd03 comments.

Therefore, we have some slack time to address some other issues, some more burning than others

I should like to propose the following point for tomorrows agenda: media registration template approval

With assistance from Robin Cover, I have prepared a registration template for the xliff media type and fixed it based on feedback I received from experts on the media-type mailing list (media-types@ietf.org).

The resulting template is now on SVN here:
https://tools.oasis-open.org/version-control/browse/wsvn/xliff/trunk/mediaTypeRegistration/IANA_Registration.txt?rev=441&sc=1
I will produce another revision with just a couple of editorial fixes that will be AFAIK prepared in all respects for a roll call ballot in the meeting tomorrow; you will see the usual workgroup mailer notification for it.

We should discuss and hopefully approve the template in the meeting tomorrow, so that the media type registration can move forward.

IMHO, the template is OK to go, I will nevertheless explain a few points about it, so that you can form your opinions before the meeting.

All text in square brackets is for reading convenience only, hence informative and not part of the normative information to be submitted to IANA for actually processing the media type submission.

There seems to be a murky dependency between the media type registration and our ability to define our specific fragid mechanism. No one in the review process was able to give an authoritative opinion on that.
So based on my best judgement, I used the provisional registration flag in the template and we may want to discuss if we want to set the provisional registration flag to "YES" or "NO".

Any other comments or improvement suggestions, please do not hesitate to propose on the mailing list or in the meeting tomorrow.

Thanks for your attention and best regards
dF
