Subject: SubSegment Matching and Referencing

Hi,

In last meeting we talked about the sub-segment matching feature listed in the wiki at https://wiki.oasis-open.org/xliff/XLIFF2.0/Feature/SubSegmentMatching

I can confirm that this feature is not needed, as current specification specifically allows for including matches for a fragment of source text. In fact, the specification only talks about spans of text and the required Âref attribute of <match> must point to a span of text. The span could be a <source> element (not directly stated) or a fragment enclosed in <mrk>, as clearly indicated in section 5.1.5 ÂTranslation Candidates AnnotationÂ.

As I see it, the requested feature can be dismissed.

Regards,
Rodolfo
