I think this part is very crucial to the whole argument. Resource's can be made up of other Resources. (Aggregates). 

If as you say "XRD is a Resource in its own right". Yes you are right in the sense that an "XRD describes a Resource". But that does not mean that the Resource cannot be made up of "other resources". After all that is why you have the Link elements.
