Subject: RE: [xri-editors] Question about example
Done. I'm also a little confused about the use of '.' in a couple of the examples. In some places, like '+flowers.rose', there's clearly a hierarchy implied. In other places, like '+table.of.contents' and '+email.address', it just seems like a stand-in for whitespace. Since we define resolution that assumes a hierarchy in the xri-authority component, I'm wondering if something like '+table.of.contents' is more confusing than illustrative. I had completely missed (being the original author of that example) that it was like sending someone email asking for their email address. The (+phone) change solves that problem nicely. Please do it. =Drummond -----Original Message----- From: Dave McAlpin [mailto:dave.mcalpin@epokinc.com] Sent: Friday, October 31, 2003 10:45 AM To: 'Wachob, Gabe'; Drummond Reed; xri-editors@lists.oasis-open.org Cc: 'Veizades, John'; Marc LeMaitre; jerry.kindall@epok.net Subject: RE: [xri-editors] Question about example I'd be ok with the (+phone) example. The intent, I'm sure, was to be parallel with the next example in the list xri:=JohnDoe.home/(+email.address) I just think the example we currently have is odd - kind of like calling someone to ask for their phone number or sending email to ask for their email address. I think all the example means is to identify the email address of the person identified with the email address "mailto:john.doe@example.com". Its kind of a silly example since its a tautology. Probably better would be: xri:(mailto:john.doe@example.com)/(+phone) The phone number of the guy with the email address john.doe@example.com But maybe this is not hte intent? -Gabe > -----Original Message----- > From: Dave McAlpin [mailto:dave.mcalpin@epokinc.com] > Sent: Friday, October 31, 2003 10:27 AM > To: 'Drummond Reed'; xri-editors@lists.oasis-open.org > Cc: 'John Veizades (E-mail)'; 'Marc LeMaitre'; jerry.kindall@epok.net > Subject: [xri-editors] Question about example > > > I'm not sure I understand the intent of the example > > xri:(mailto:john.doe@example.com)/(+email.address) > > It seems to me that something like > > xri:@foo/(mailto:john.doe@example.com)/(+email.address) > > would be more intuitively meaningful.
