Subject: RE: [xri-editors] AlternativeXRI & Mapping XRID Elements

Title: [xri-editors] AlternativeXRI & Mapping XRID Elements
The idea is that resolving mapping will get you back to the same XRID and resolving AlternativeXRI will get you to a different XRID. Mapping is primarily intended to give you a more persistent XRI to use in the future. AlternativeXRI is primarily intended to give you some place else to look if the current XRID doesn't contain the local access protocol you're interested in. Since both re-start the resolution process at the root, I don't think trusted resolution is affected.

Subject: [xri-editors] AlternativeXRI & Mapping XRID Elements

If you have looked at the Errata document, Dave has proposed a new element in the XRID called "AlternativeXRI". This is a different concept than Mapping, but the concepts aren't well-defined enough for me.

The two purposes for Mapping and AlternativeXRI are defined in terms of examples, but not really in terms of semantics or processing rules. For example, what is a resolver supposed to do if they are both there? What is the meaning if one is there and there is also other Authority information in the XRID (ie an XRIAuthority element)? Its not clear what kind of behavior is intended when these two elements appear in combination with other things, and whether that behavior is influenced by the intent of the resolver in resolving a particular XRI.

And also, whats the interaction with Trusted Resolution?
