Subject: RE: [xri-editors] next round on the intro doc
Mike, After my time at the OASIS Symposium last week I feel pretty strongly that we should complete the revised intro doc before trying to go for a vote. It is very clear to me that many OASIS members do not know anything about a spec with until it comes up for a vote, and when it does, they are DESPARATE for a good, clean, short introduction to the technology. In other words, this is about more than just a successful vote. This is a golden chance to educate a number of influential OASIS members about XRI. That's why I think the W3C comment has given us a good reason to rewrite the Intro doc and update how we are positioning XRI and its key technical advantages. I am totally on board with de-emphasizing persistence and moving the emphasis to the other requirements for uniform abstact identifiers. I think the fresh eyes/pens you and Gabe bring is a great way to recast the doc. I also think your time frame is realistic. Since at this point we have missed the "pre-summer" window, I think it's fine to go for a vote in August so we can announce in September. Again, we can discuss further on Tuesday if there is a good time for everyone. =Drummond -----Original Message----- From: Lindelsee, Mike [mailto:mlindels@visa.com] Sent: Friday, April 29, 2005 4:12 PM To: xri-editors@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [xri-editors] next round on the intro doc All, Gabe and I are going to take a stab at editing the intro doc. To set expectations correctly, we are planning on doing some major surgery the doc. Our initial assessment is that we'll need two weeks to get to a point where we'd like some initial review and comments. At that point we'll be able to better pin down how long it will take to get to a final draft. I'm guessing that will be an additional two to four weeks (not counting the time it takes to do review cycles). As a separate issue we should consider if we want to link this document to the OASIS-wide spec vote or not. I think it might be better to just continue with the vote as is and publish this document afterwards. Let's discuss if anyone feels that we should link the two though.
