Vote on RC2 starting Fri. 11/28

XRI TC Members:
 
Last Thursday, XRI Editor's SC Chair Dave McAlpin uploaded Release
Candidate 2 of the XRI Generic Syntax and Resolution Specification in
Word format. Gabe posted a PDF version of the same document this
afternoon (links to both are included below for easy reference).

RC2 incorporates all feedback received on RC1, and closes all remaining
open issues and action items. The Editor's SC is now forwarding RC2 to
the full TC for a vote as a Committee Draft.
 
To make it easy to review any changes from RC1, all non-trivial changes
in RC2 are marked with a Word comment - just open the Comments window
(or the Reviewing toolbar) to step through them. In addition, two
appendices were removed: 
 
1) Appendix B (what had been "Special Identifiers Assigned by the XRI
Specification") was removed in favor of making it a separate
specification (to be called the XRI Metadata Specification). This moved
all remaining issues about the $ namespace to this new spec (which
allows it to be revised independently from the main spec, which is good
as it is likely to grow rapidly over the next 12-24 months).
 
2) Appendix D (what had been the appendix on using cross-references to
request representation types in resolution) was folded into Section 3
(it is now section 3.4.4).
 
Aside from this, 8 of the 34 comments are new glossary entries, 4 are
final proofing steps, and the other 22 are enhancements to improve
clarity. 
 
In order to give all TC members enough time to review these final
proposed changes from RC1, we propose to commence a vote on RC2 starting
next Friday, Nov. 28th, closing on Friday, Nov. 5th.
 
If you have ANY further feedback or revisions, please send them to the
main TC list ASAP. Barring any feedback resulting in signficant
revisions, we will plan to begin the online ballot this coming Friday
(you will receive a separate email with the ballot).
