But I'm not qualified to comment on that, or it's relevance=20 to the future of the human race. :-) =3DLoren -----Original Message----- From: Victor Grey [mailto:victor@idcommons.org]=20 Sent: Monday, June 14, 2004 5:14 PM To: xri@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: Re: [xri] * and / discussion Drummond Reed wrote: > With 8 gazillion URIs deployed in the world today, there's no question = > that > the hiearchical view is prevalent. I admit to being a bit out of my depth in some the finer points of URI=20 syntax here, but as a (self-appointed) representative to this list from=20 the developer community, I'd like to weigh in that the ability to=20 "represent peer link relationships" is *the* feature of XRI/XDI that=20 will distinguish it as something revolutionary. RDF, Topic Maps, the Semantic Web, are all expressions of a widespread,=20 somewhat frustrated desire to fully realize the potential of the=20 internet as a tool to facilitate nonhierarchical human interaction. If=20 we can create an elegant and RESTful way to represent peer link=20 relationships, I believe we will have gone beyond making an incremental=20 technical advance - we will have contributed to the success of a new=20 paradigm that's desperately needed if the human race is to have a=20 future. Hope that's not too grandiose for y'all, but that's my $.02 Victor Grey To unsubscribe from this mailing list (and be removed from the roster of = the OASIS TC), go to http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/xri/members/leave_workgroup.= php .
